R9641 Ash Plant

Posted at 19:41:49 Tue 18 Mar 2014

I am considering buying this as I see it on the official Hornby website sale.

I am wondering what dimensions is it ?

My layout is fairly crowded so space is at a premium.

Thanks in advance.

That's because you're a rebel 2e0, always pushing the boundaries.

Thank you for all your replies and help.

Most of the models have dimensions on the Hornby site but not this one.

I will check the Liverpool retailer out.

One last question - is the Ash Plant worth buying?

For a start, I did not press the reply button, thus creating the above. Because I couldn't fit in a double road one, I have a Hornby single road coaling plant but I'm afraid bought the opposition's ash plant which presumably has similar proportions. I

can measure them if required.

Still can't find any rulers on the Hattons site. I know they used to have them.

As a rule you can usually find these, WTD. Or is it a measure of your..........?

I have seen a picture of it - but what is an Ash Plant?

Hi RDS

I'll be sensible - I won't say it's something you find in a pot in the greenhouse!!

Very basically after a loco has it's fire cleaned the ash is shovelled into a small narrow gauge wagon which is in the pit. When the job is done

it is then propelled (probably handraulically)to the Ash Plant. It is then hoisted and emptied into the tower and when sufficient has accumulated it is unloaded into wagons which have been placed underneath. Very much like the cenotaph type of coal tower.

As

far as I recall the last surviving Ash Plant, like the last Coal Tower, is at Carnforth.

This is a general outline, it's quite likely LC&DR, when he reads this, will post chapter and verse and make this contribution look very small!!

If you go to the Hattons web site and type in R9641 you get just one picture.

The link you gave was for Hattons.com I was just looking at Hattons.
