Model Railways on TV

Posted at 21:21:05 Sat 25 Mar 2017

I was in my local Model train shop today and was given a free copy of  The Railway Guide to Modelling , April 2017. There is an artical in it about the TV company behind the British Bake off, They are thinking about Making a program about Model Railways. I think this could be a great thing to get more people into the hobby, The only thing that worries me is they are the same company behind the program  Benefits Street. Lets hope if they do its all positive. Any thoughts??

I hope it's not a half-baked idea! Will they be showing how to make track ballast from crumble-topping, or make mountains from pastry?  :-)

I won't be watching, as I don't have a tv!

From comments on other forums (fori) the idea got the great brush off from the railway modelling community.

Sounds like a good programme. I hope they do put that programme into production.

Let's hope everyone's favourite no. 1 tank engine - Thomas the Tank Engine, make an appearance in it, too! Laughing

Will it be in the same style as the Great British Bake Off (or G.B sewing bee, G.B. pottery throwdown, etc, etc)? That is, a group of railway modelers with set tasks in a limited amount of time to complete it and then the worst one goes home every week? It sounds interesting...

There is a good series sometimes repeated on discovery shed channel called "model town" which was all about model railways, looks like it was made in the 90's, unknown presenters but who cares!

Isn't this the people who were originally wanting to build a 'model railway' from Liverpool to Manchester (or something like that) and are now talking about building it along the length of the Great Glenn Instead?

Not really modelling, more of an engineering challenge!
