Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

It doesn't appear to be DCC ready. Have a look at http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_year_details.asp?itemyearid=7339

I've also checked my 2005 51st Hornby catalogue and that does not mention DCC either. I have R 2530 6007 "King William III" and the box for that shows both "Super Detail" and very clearly "DCC Ready."

Cock O' The North by guess who. The TTS version. Three days to cross the channel, excellent time for an old engine.

Very impressive machine; Seems the wheels on this version are painted the same colour as the superstructure but my eyesight may be playing tricks. I find the detail outstanding, its also runs extremely smoothly and the TTS is a revelation for me. Can't compare with memories of the real engine, wasn't quite around yet, but I deem the sound to be excellent. And despite the fact this isn't a cheap loco, it beats anything else I've seen or owned for the price. This is a real winner. I really hope Hornby will make this decoder available separately with a the possibility of programming it ourselves for two, three or more cylinders, whistle, etc....

This has now convinced me to go ahead with the build of the (very) old Keyser kit of the streamlined version of this engine (but with a different motor, gears, etc....) which I have had lying about for longer than I care to remember. I wonder if Hornby will ever make the P2 chassis and power train available as a spare....??? (please....)

I certainly hope so - and hope that they don't have a two year delay.

Did you know, by the way, that the real one crossed the channel in 1934?

Hello PP (and the rest of the lads in the NER/LNER waiting room)....

Now that you mention it I do vaguely recollect something about trials in France. But whatever for? Surely there was enough testing ground in Britain? And by the way, what I said about the price was in relation to what comparable continental models cost (you can at least double the price!) Initially I would have like to model the steam era in Belgium, where I live, but apart from some reliveried war reparation German engines (steam), for genuine Belgian locos, and some were mighty impressive, it's limited edition brass, well over £1,000 and coaches to suit. Afraid that is out of reach for me.

Thanks for the advice. It arrived today and has a small DCC ready logo on the box but it must be a second hand one because I found it was already fitted with a Chip and also explains the very cheap price! Only thing was I could not programme the chip to 6008 - Must be the old type chip. So I swapped it for the one I had in my GW (steam) sentinal no 12 and reprogrammed both.

Also in the post was a s/h blue box pannier to supply a chassis for a 3D printed body of a condensing pannier. This 3D printing is wonderful stuff, just got to fit hand rails, smokebox door dart paint and numberplate!

Wish someone would do bodies for some of the Hornby Chassis

Hi 81F,

A Google search should come up with some answers. I believe Dean Sidings have some resin bodies that fit the Hornby 060 chassis and am sure there are others out there. Havn't tried 3D printing so far but I understand it's quite an expensive piece of kit. Or are they firms in Britain you can send your requirements to?

I have used Shapeways and presume that the print is done in the Netherlands. So far I have made a GWR steel bodied open wagon which fits on the old Hornby Dubleo 10' Chassis (or Dapol version). After a reasonable sucess I am now awaitng another improved steel open, a body based on an LSWR van, a GWR Bullion van and a 009 sentinal body kit.

If these work I might try a loco body for a hornby chassis.

In theory this will be the longest thread ever eventually, unless we all give up our wonderful hobby.
