Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

I should think shipping costs play a big part in the overall price point.

When was the previous iteration released? Anyone know?

I can't wait to see mine running round the track, though it will be a week or two yet. I went up there to get something a day or so ago ago and it is still quite nippy, so I'll wait a bit. In the meantime I can get it prepared - decoder installed, profile added etc. Speaking of which, until the correct profile is available I was thinking of installing the Black 5. Do others think that a reasonable alternative?

I think the 8F dates back to 2003 when it changed from tender- to loco-drive and acquired a DCC socket on the loco chassis.

Thanks, GS, thought you might know grinning. So it's 20 years since an 8F has been produced. I'm surprised that there is no re-tooling involved 20 years on.

Sir William tried to standardise as much as he could.

I'm certain there'll be plenty of variations, but dimensionally the 8F / 5MT were very similar - wheel dimensions and numbers exempted ...

If it's sound, I think all know my opinions ... chuff synchronising would be important to me. To many they seem to accept this 'anomaly'.

Well the correct profile would of course be preferable but until that is available it will have to be something close.
