Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

And that I suspect is the reason, RT - ebay and the like will spell the end for traders at fairs, I fear. Perhaps fairs will go back to what they started as: individuals selling off surplus bits at "to go" prices rather than trying to make a living at it. It would certainly be a shame to see the end of fairs as they are a splendid source of all sorts of stuff and spending the odd day selling once in a while is quite fun, but economics will rule the day, I suppose.

I don't know threelink we thought that in the Classic Motorcycle community but EBay becomes expensive and the Sellers become greedy. We don't have many toyfairs around here so I don't know what they are like for prices but you have the point that it is much nicer to see the stuff and see all the faults.

I do like to be proven wrong. Went to a toy and train fair yesterday at Coventry. 150 plus stalls, very well attended and trade seemed brisk. I certainly spent more than I should have done. Star buy was an old Hornby tender drive LMS liveried Duchess of Sutherland, knocked about and filthy dirty but reasonably complete except for smoke deflectors, for the princely sum of £10.00. Cleaned and serviced the tender drive (dirtiest I have ever seen) and incredibly it runs very well - even has good tyres. Need to sort out collectors on the loco and do some cosmetic work, but it seems pretty decent under the muck. What a bargain - overall it will come in just within my budget of £12.00 per loco. Also picked up a slew of tatty wagons for £1.00 apiece all of which will fix up nicely, enough fine wire to last me the rest of my days, and a box of all sorts (buffers, 8 white metal cast iron columns, water crane, 2 colour light signals and a collection of scenic items) for £3.00. Perhaps fairs are on the up. I do hope so. As ColinB says, it's nice to have the chance to inspect the goods before purchase.

This was an expensive day. I've been waiting for this Hush Hush since Feb 2022.

My name is long, so just call me Lee.

Nice collection.

Funny seeing the smaller locomotives in the bigger boxes!

A nice loco despite not really being the era that I model. It has now had a Power Bank fitted and will get lights fitted in due course for completeness.

If you dream it, you can do it.

My wife bought me a 1/76 Wall's Ice cream Bedford van, just like one that used to frequent our street when I was a kid back in the 50's. She's good like that.

Did you get the ice cream cornet as well?

With flake and raspberry sauce as well of course!

This morning I took delivery of a BR 9F with Westinghouse Pumps and it is a nice model. The thing that struck me was how small it appears in comparison with the Gresley / Thompson / Peppercorn 4-6-2s I have. In my mind's eye I imagined a locomotive of the size of Hush-Hush, whereas it is more Gresley V2 in size.

That's right.

The 9F's a big locomotive, but quite a bit smaller than you'd expect - still a relative powerhouse nevertheless!
