Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

New arrival this afternoon; Bachmann's Aspinall Class 5 2-4-2T, in Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway livery. Not entirely sure of the period though; does anyone know?

It must be before the 1923 grouping if it is in L & Y livery, so era 2 as the class was built too late for era 1.

I mean, the L&YR had multiple variations on it's locomotive livery in the late 19th and early 20th Century, so I'm trying to narrow down which particular variation it is, and when it was in use.

These are very good looking, but way too expensive for what they are. Lights should be standard at this price.

I remember when building my rake of 8, I hunted everywhere, accepting minor defects for much-more-reasonable pricing, if new remained in the Stratosphere.

All look great.

How easy is it to get inside these, just wondering if the Mk 3 Mag Lighting would work as I would love to upgrade from my current LNER coaches which are the railroad variety but would like to have lighting.

I just checked and they don’t come with a little instruction sheet like all my recent 4 and 6 wheel coaches have. At £66 a pop I’m somewhat reluctant to start trying to pry the body from the frame.

Quite understandable, thanks for looking.

Hornby carriages normally have a small clip in each corner of the chassis - looking from underneath. It is often part of the glazing, so will be clear plastic. You really have to be very careful in moving them, as they tend to snap off. If you can get one corner free, usually by sliding a piece of plasticard (an old credit card) between the body and the chassis will work - but do it very carefully. The other thing to bear in mind is that very few coaches will have a slot in the top of the compartment walls, so you will have to cut/file a slot to take the lighting strip. I have five sets of Mk3 Maglights, but have not got round to fitting them yet.

Here is one I did earlierblush

If you dream it, you can do it.

In the last week I have added to my LNER fleet, 2002 Earl Marischal, 2003 Lord Presdent, 2005 Thane of Fife and 2007 Prince of Wales all the new P2's 2-8-2 models. Which are excellant models and run very smoothly.
