Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

@TC

No, I don't think it was an automated response, it was signed by a named person with the title of 'Customer Service Advisor'.

@atom3624

I never haul anything when running in locos, it was just making it's way round my layout, then came to a stop with the motor still running. Lovely looking machine indeed, but mine might be a tad cursed.

Very nice Deem, I have one of those myself. It may just be mine, but it has a bit of a dodgy front bogie, seems to like to work itself loose. Might be worth having a look before letting it loose on the track.

Thanks for everyone's comment. I did find it having issue's with front wheel bogie been wondering especially when going over points (Hornby R8072 - R8073) for first few attempt, I looked and found the packaging between the chassis and bogie, as I removed it, Loco seem to been running fine, but only used for few minutes and stored it away. I want to keep as it is, until I have received the HM700 Bluetooth decoder and will try that again with sound.

If the front bogie is derailing, a couple of things:

  1. Have you checked the B2B - back to back dimension. Typically 14.3-14.5mm. If too small, wheels can lock against the bogie frame and/or fall off the track.
  2. How is the track itself - 16.5mm between rails - the track itself may be slightly deformed?
  3. When you slowly lift the locomotive up, does the bogie start lifting off right away, or is there 'a little slop' permitting the bogie to remain a little? If lifting straight away, there's not enough 'weight' on the bogie.

Thanks Al,

Loco ran fine after I remove the packaging from front bogie, so at the moment I will leave the loco in storage, until i have 8 pin TSX decoder, I will try again at that time.

Been after one of these for a long time, finally managed to find one and bought it as soon as it was listed.

This was scheduled for delivery on Monday, but a nice Saturday surprise. I'm blown away by this thing, it's absolutely stunning.

@DRC

I have not unpacked mine yet - it also arrived this morning (via DPD!!). It looks a great loco. You made a good choice smile. It should look good sitting next to 35011 General Steam Navigation - one of last years Hornby Dublo models.

If you dream it, you can do it.
