Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

Posted at 07:59:15 Tue 19 Mar 2013

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

Just had the body off in a matter of seconds!! No 'grief' either - wonderful!!

Actually just used my nails without collateral damage anywhere - loco or I - and the fit's certainly secure enough.

Weight - no suitable balances in the building where I am, but others have reported 'heavy enough'. I would guess ~Bachmann Class 66 weight, or slightly more, but less than Hattons' 66.

There have been videos of 'load tests' of the Dapol 59, indicating it doesn't quite weigh as much as the Hattons' 66, nor is it quite as able to haul REALLY silly loads as said locomotive is, but it gets very close.

I have had mine on the tracks last night, and she runs like a dream, not derailing once, and once 'gently' hauling 10 LMS carriages at half power for 30+ minutes, given a quick cooldown, little touch of oil on the bearings, I added another 5 with lights for good measure - no problem at all - DEFINITELY recommend it!!

FINALLY received my A/Scale TPE coach set - photo attached so may take a little while to appear - and they look superb.

Ordered perhaps 18-20 months ago, fully paid up 6 months ago, so all they had to do was arrive. Packaging was amazing!

Whilst checking my inbox I noticed that Rapido have done a Hunslet industrial locomotive - so I added that to my 'new acquisitions' - the blue NCB one as I've a load of coal wagons.

Looks an absolutely beautiful model - cab detail looks like it's raising the bar somewhat!

Just added 2 more secondhand class 90's made during the 1990's also 2 more Lima Class 87's. I have had to replace the roof switches and rewire the 2 87's so the pantographs work

I need to stop as I am running out of storage shelves.

Tony, a common problem.

This is (I believe) my first post in this thread. Apparently not!

However today I have received a model of a piece of rolling stock that I would never have heard about without model railway fora. Therefore it felt only fair to post about it here.

The model is of a BR Diesel Brake Tender (a Hornby Magazine exclusive commission). (Some basic info on the real thing:)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/brake_tender

In my opinion it is a delightful model of a curious piece of railway history that has apparently been overlooked by the major RTR producers.

I obviously don’t wish to breach any forum rules so will simply state that they are only available direct from the magazine’s publishers.

(Beware ridiculous prices eBay sellers are asking - in the hope that people can’t locate the genuine seller).

I have no connection with any company - am merely a delighted owner.

Toothpaste is 1:1 perfection, for models rule #1 applies... Suum cuique!

Been a busy month for new arrivals . 8 of the Hornby Drax biomass wagons arrived , then 2 packs of the Accurascale mk5 Caledonian sleeper coaches & then the Accurascale mk5a TPE set.

Good going there.

I've the TPEa set as well - received 2 days ago.

Run faultlessly.

I've yet to add their 'destination code' detailing - may wait for warmer weather as I can see that taking a little while - not the easiest in a pretty cool garage!

Nice layout there.

Postie brought this little beauty today - looks absolutely superb.

Tests have so far shone.

It has a firebox glow as well - obvious with the 9V battery test.

It's relatively tiny, yet seems to weigh quite a lot.

The centre axle is sprung and has very slight movement.

It's actually a split chassis arrangement, with no separate pickups or wires visible - seems to work very, very well.

Once home it'll definitely be put through it's paces!!

(Tempted to get another!!)

To complement the fantastic little locomotive from Rapido - anyone after an industrial loco this is one to consider (mine with crew now) - I've just 'won' The Earl R3870.

FINALLY purchased a Peckett - I've been after one for ages - needed to be acceptable to me ... and now needed to be NCB to go with Holly Bank #3.

Will be interesting to compare them.

The Rapido has a fantastic finish, but is plastic. The Hornby has the metal body, so haulage comparisons could be interesting.

Well I wasn’t going to get these when they where original announced has I was modelling LMR 1960s but has I’ve switched to the LMS 1930’s I thought why not, the rest of the set is on it’s way and Queen Mary is on pre Order.

Mind the Coronation Set looks good two! Could I live with myself buying a A4! Always liked the Silver Fox.

If it’s not Crimson, it isn’t a proper engine
