Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

I thought the nameplate looked too low as well, then the 1st Googled image was this:

92220 copy (2)

On this photo alone, it's fine.

Hi Al - I looked at the same picture (and more). On this picture the bottom of the Ev.Star explanation plate is level with the top of the "steam exhaust", whereas mine are lower. I placed the etched plates directly over the original transfers, as I was not up to making a mess of the smoke deflectors on a brand new model. I can live with it.

If I was that fussy, I would replace the smoke deflectors with plain black ones and then add the plates as they should be. Barry (BB)

R3130XS  BR 4-6-2 Merchant Navy Class–Holland-Afrika Line–35023 DCC with sound. This will become 35018 British India Line.

Excellent choice with BIL 35018.

Are you going to modify the tender for the modern, presumably higher capacity tender?

Hi Al

I don't usually modify my tenders as such, but do change them around. As you will be aware Hornby have only produced two different types (5100&6000gallon) . This loco, as produced(Holland Afrika Line) by Hornby, came with the 6000gallon tender, which I'm sure BIL was using in 1960/61. It was also a Bournemouth (61B) based loco, so no need to change the smokebox door shed plate. I have a fairly comprehensive library on Merchant Navy Class locos, so colour of nameplates etc., can usually(?) be confirmed.

One lesson learned when changing tenders, they are not always wired the same way - wheel power pick-ups have been reversed on some, which gives an instant fault. It happened once, so I now always check. Barry/BB

Totally understood BB.

It would be difficult to replicate the 'factory finish', but a fine selection of a very hard working, and genuinely impressive 'contemporary operation' locomotive.

I had a bit of good luck this week. A chap over here was selling his dad's layout just to get rid of it.

Lucky me. £1,300 for the lot.

All DCC with sound; Duke of Gloucester, Flying Scotsman, Gordon Highlander, Heljan Class 27, A4 Quicksilver, Battle of Britain class, DMU's x2, 12 lit Pullman coaches plus a load of other rolling stock.

7 DC 0-6-0 shunting loco's.

There's also some fantastic buildings, more than I can count right now, plus trackwork and a Digitrax setup.

Bit early for Xmas but I'm well chuffed!

I have just received the Hornby Rail Operations Group's class 47. It's a Railroad Plus with TTS.

Here is a short video of it running: https://youtu.be/XvYpnt7OR1c

Well, that Rapido LNER Dynamometer Car has finally arrived - absolutely superb!!

The fit, finish, and rolling are fantastic as well.

Reasonably well weighted - not overly heavy and mainly plastic - but the printing is excellent.
