Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

My 'large logo' R3181 56 084 has arrived.

Looking at the wheels, and condition generally, it's 'brand new' and has not turned a wheel regularly on a track, anywhere - meaning relatively speaking it's an absolute bargain!!

Just ran it in this evening - an hour or so each way with a light rake of mixed BR Mk.2's - Hornby, Bachmann and Airfix - 11 in total.

That super detail Class 56 is a superbly smooth runner, and can really move if necessary as well!!

Just a pity it's a 'later model' without the moving fans - I'll see what I can do to remedy that - my EWS one is super smooth but looks much better with that 'gimmick' - no issues observed despite what some say!

I've spent more so far this year than in the preceding two years.

You can't take it with you.

Hornbys new Maunsell 1st RK restaurant car, and very nice it is too. Surprised to find a new style of magnetic coupling included with the accessory pack.

Easily in my top five of my collection and a bargain.

Listed as spares or repair.

It turns out the 21 pin decoder had failed.

It's in 'as new' condition.

Bachmann Class 25...

I've taken inspiration of seeing a Class 37 being hauled down the M1.

I have a dummy Evening Star and BOB Class SR Winston Churchill arriving shortly, which I'll drop on a bogie and haul by a similar diesel to that currently on my layout...

Just won a Hoover !!

OK, a Class 50, 50 007 Sir Edward Elgar - another I've wanted for some time, still holding quite healthy prices .... let's hope it's another good win like the 56 was.

Hi Will, do you have any problems with the loading gauge, or do you not have any tunnels or bridges?

Did you buy the full train pack with maroon Coronation in, or did you buy it loose?

Regards

Just received my 'Hoover' .... 50 007 Sir Edward Elgar.

It's another one that's been on my Wishlist ...

Details already added, and well, and looks great - no obvious problems ...

Battery test at the office showed the directional lights worked, but ... it just 'buzed' - OK!!

Description said hadn't run for 10 years, so had been running but not used for a while - these are the locomotives which require more attention generally.

Being a little disheartened, some (fairly substantial) care and TLC, and judicious amounts of fine machine oil later ... it runs perfectly, and the fan works perfectly as well - great news.

Only problem is that stupid coupling system which doesn't permit it to be at the correct height ... something to work on, otherwise she's an excellent runner.

Just ordered a set of red background, treated etched brass name / number plates from Fox Transfers for her as well.
