Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

Posted at 07:59:15 Tue 19 Mar 2013

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

a Class 43 Inter City 125 loco and dummy in Executive mustard cloured livery. What a pity that Hornby do not seem to have made a coach in the same livery. The coach liveries available look out of place between the loco and dummy. If I were clever enough I would have a go at painting a matching coach myself ! Tongue Out

Worked out some money, and along with my preordered Beatles Yellow Submarine Eurostar train pack now shipping from Hatton's, I also purchased the 00 Hogwarts Express set and on Etsy found an unopened Night Mail Express set (looks like late 1980's or early 1990's?) for a fantastic price.

Looks like I will have quite a choice to make for under the tree running this Christmas!

Been a while since I was here; and my most recent acquisition came from Britain; a second hand LNER liveried Gresley A1 Gladiateur, seperated from the 2007 Queen of Scots limited edition train set it had been created for; there was some damage to the coal rails on the tender, and the reversing rod was on the wrong side (a common issue I'm lead to understand?), but otherwise, a very charming addition.

To complement the existing 2MT and 4MT standard tank engines I have of Bachmann, I managed to find a very-recent 3MT standard tank for 'a reasonable price'.

Expected to arrive tomorrow ...

The 2MT's an older, split chassis (!!) model, but has a really good weight and is a superb runner.

Just through the post today was a Triang Blue Pullman dummy power car minus front coupling. The seller had not specified that the coupling was missing but it was obvious from the photo. The body is in excellent condition so I have used it to replace the one on a driven  power car. Will hopefully have another 5 car set if I win another centre car.

Brought a Hornby Princess Royal 4/6211 renumbered and named to 4/6205, lovely model wasn't going to get one but caved in the end. Also bought a Stanier Mogul plus two BR DMUs class 105+108 borh BR green.

If it’s not Crimson, it isn’t a proper engine

Hornby R2300 Bournemouth Belle Train Pack - M/N Class New Zealand Line + Three Pullman Coaches with lights.  Ebay auction - described as "New" - very low winning bid.  End of the week will see if I'm a happy man.

If you dream it, you can do it.

The Bachmann 3MT arrived - stamp implies it was manufactured in July this year!!

Superb little model, good weight, room for a little more which I added and can still spin her wheels a little.

Good traction and a reasonable haulage capacity.

Detailing appears exceptional.

Pity for practical reasons even with 4th radius, the front steps cannot be fitted - more 'super scale' large layouts only I suppose, or purely for presentation.

A lovely smooth runner - smooth when very slow, up to a reasonable top speed, perhaps 80 mph scale speed.

I'm a happy man. The R2300 Bournemouth Belle Train Pack won on ebay is as good as new - not even any shelf wear on the box. I paid £121 - more than a bargain compared with "Buy it Now" prices.
