Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

My boxed AW Day is a fairly recent purchase but my General Refractories and Princess Royal wagons were birthday presents at the time and still in their original boxes which is more than I can say for my rather battered Cory wagon! Smile

Hi Rana & M-R

Are the green J Bly 5 plank open wagon a Triang Wrenn / Wrenn production rather than a Triang Hornby one, as i have 5 unboxed Wrenn green J Bly's in my collection?

Great Clay loco MR!

Jimbo, you might find the Crabstruggles to pull anything much without the weights in the tender. You can manufacture some from aquar ium weights if those that came with the loco are too distorted.

Thanks for the tip, Temporary Frog, I have some neo magnets which are pretty heavy and may fit. But would the magnetism be harmful to the motor ? Undecided

Tony, the J Bly is a Tri-ang Wrenn product.

Jimbo, it's Temperate Frog as in in the European (and UK) common frog which lives in temperate climates and was my nickname at school. You just need some weight in there that will fit between the tender body and the motor block. I have used aquarium weights and blu-tac on some other locos. I'd be a bit wary about magnets as they may interfere with the motor. Someone recently gave me some bits of lead flashing which is 2 or 3mm thick and can be cut with scissors, it is also very easy to shape. Something like that would be ideal. I make sure I wash my hands afterwards!

Thanks, RT.  I found the Mazak weights fairly easy to cut/file so I am pressing on with fitting the originals as they are nice and heavy.  (Well, HEAVY anyway).

@ M. R. :- I also got the 'Caledonian single' but it is not a working model - only a non-working Static Model from the magazine called 'G. B. L. C.' (Great British Locomotive Collection)
