Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

My latest acquisition is a proper crimp tool and a tie wrap gun. Oh so much easier to use than pliers.

As for locos and rolling stick, sorry but the costs have gone up dramatically such that I now spend on infrastructure i.e. control systems that I have designed myself.

Inspired by a challenge

@ Sarahagain

Super work and photographs !    Do I detect that the driver is "autobiographical " ?  Smile

Hi Jimbo...

I think that I can see what you mean...

But any similarity is purely coincidental! Wink

The crew are Bachmann figures from the Locomotive Staff set.

The fireman was a wheel tapper, he has lost his hammer!

I think that the driver was a cleaner, with his rag removed....

Lost his rag? Wink

A bit of re grading...

There is still a shortage of decent loco crew figures...

There are some very good figures available, but it can work out pricy...

I tend to look for sets like the BM ones, at cheap prices!

The Dapol ex Airfix workmen are ideal for a bit of figure bashing Sarah.

Hi WTD...

Yes, they are very good figures.

There are even ready made loco crew amongst the track workers, and "Gaffers".

Painting is fun, but I do like them.

There are photos of some I made earlier on the various forums, which carry Ffrwd Locks threads...

Such as here....

This is a link to a Workbench thread on a forum, that shews the Dapol, ex Airfix, figures referred to above.

The Dapol bases are different from the Airfix bases, which were more like paving slabs...

I cut the base off and stand the figures on their feet. Sometimes I drill up through the leg and insert a length of handrail wire then plug the figure into the layout. In the cab I just glue them in place.

 @Sarah,

The new Hornby A1 / A1X is a really excellent model,  I have now got two, the BR early crest 32655 and the SECR 751, and I am already  debating whether to get one in Improved Engine Green or not.

Some years ago I was given a footplate ride on one from Haven Street to  Smallbrook Junction and back. I discovered just how small the footplate is. I spent 70% of the journey just outside the cab, although fortunately it was a lovely sunny day, so probably I had the best position. The firedoor is actually below the level of the floor of the cab so shovelling coal is a backbreaking job for the fireman.
