Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

What's your latest aquisition?

Here's my latest purchase, a Tri-ang-Hornby R.754 M7 in BR Black livery.

The box was tatty, crew were missing and the BR totem transfers on the tank sides were part missing as per normal.

The model is slowly being restored, a fresh box mint was found on ebay with incorrect labels (the one on the right) and I have crew and original totem transfers a plenty in stock, I will post stages of the restoration at intervals for all my friends on here to see as they take place.

Here's the loco pre-restoration but with nice new original 40+ BR Totem transfers put on the side tanks, a packet of the original transfers is posed by the loco for reference.

Hope all at Hornby like what I am doing to their old locos.

Enjoy!

I got these in the sale apart from the Camping Coach. Good quality stuff I got them because of Simon Kohler's Blog and I've always liked Skaledale. Delivered today without Delay 10/10 would Skaledale again :-D

Here's a photo not a great shot but the best one I've took

I'm attaching a picture I took of my recently acquired new loco, the opposition's Standard Class 3MT tank loco standing on my layout. It came fitted with a Youchoos (Zimo) sound decoder with 21 different functions (and 784 CVs!), firebox and directional operating lamps, plus crew, and a separate decoder for smoke. It's not smoking in my picture, though, as you can see.

A real little stunner and fantastic runner.

I got carried away and splashed out 20p on a really old Triang green 'Southern' coach. It is totally inappropriate for my layout, but it looks ideal for converting into an Engineer's coach, with a hardboard skid under it for polishing the track.

It is so old it has the 'J' style tension locks, and plastic (yuk) 9mm wheels split in two halves running on a steel axle. I was intending to replace them with metal ones, but they aren't pin-points, just jam-fit metal rods running in holes in the rivetted bogey.

I can't see an 'R' number, but it has running number S17035, and underneath it has Tri - ang - and Made in England.

Maybe SOT can date it? Not that it matters!

Bachmann E4, LBSCR umber came the week of my wedding aniversary so SWMBO has adopted it as "our" loco (it was the best compromise I could get!)

The other item was a pure "nostalgia" pieces - two Jouef 231c pacifics in SNCF green. I had only intended to buy one and had put a very small bid on it when a second much better one came up. ended up winning them both!

I remember being given one of these (less tender) in Brown as my second loco in the late 70s. My original became badly damaged but still has a working motor so I wasn't too bothered that both were poor runners. However just by tapping a loose crankpin back and oiling round one is perfect!  The nice thing is that it has the old Hornby/Peco type loco so I now have sometrhing that can pull my tinplate - though not particularly authentically!

The second a tender drive looks as thogu it needs sonme work.

The only pickups I can find are on the second tender bogie so it stops on all points!

The coach you refer to appeared in Triang Railways 2nd catalogue 1956, 2 toes. I'm attaching a picture of it. As you can see, its running number is S17035 and item number R.22. It cost 8s 3d then, compared to your 20p.

Yes, with the original type of Tri-ang couplings. I believe the metal axle rods you refer to had rounded end and I did manage to convert that type of wheel to insulated metal ones. I bought some small metal caps that you could fit into the plastic axle boxes to reduce wear on them.

Hope this helps.

Odd - I'm certain I saw a post from Grassie, re my 'Southern' coach, saying it was R22, and cost 8s and something, but when I logged on to acknowledge, the post vanished!

The R.22 Southern Region Coach was first issued 1955 if memory serves me right guys. They are very collectable in good to mint condition now.
