Hello and welcome to the latest edition of The Engine Shed, your regular peek behind-the-scenes at Hornby. Well what a fortnight we've had - two weeks ago we were just setting up for our weekend at The London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace, and we've got a report from the show coming up for those of you who weren't able to join us.

After a very busy weekend it was back to an even busier development office, with a whole stack of new production samples to check - read on for a look at what's just arrived.

Sounds like a Class 20

First we're going to take a look at the imminent RailRoad Class 20 '20163' with TTS Sound (R3394TTS) which is due next month, the approval sample of which arrived a few weeks ago. We haven't looked at this loco yet in Engine Shed as we gave our friends at Hornby Magazine first bite at the cherry on this one - and they did such a good job that it would be churlish not to include their review here!

As if the video wasn't enough, the Class 20 also featured in their April issue - don't forget, you can see what's in Hornby Magazine each month on our Hornby Magazine page.

A weekend at the Palace

Ally Pally Sunday 12

The weekend of 25th and 26th March saw the Hornby team decamp to Alexandra Palace for the annual London Festival of Railway Modelling, which as usual was packed with layouts, exhibitors and of course model rail enthusiasts, even though it was also Mother's Day weekend!

The Hornby team spent the entire weekend chatting to modellers and showing off our production samples on the stand, the highlight of which was the decoration sample of the GWR Class 43 HST 125. We were also joined by BRM Magazine during the weekend for live demonstrations of weathering techniques on the stand, so it didn't feel like there was ever a quiet period over the two days.

Thanks to everyone who came along and said hello, it's always a pleasure to meet modellers face-to-face - our next outing is to The Great Central Model Railway Event in Leicester this June.

Samples galore

We've had such a flood of production samples over the past couple of weeks that we couldn't select just a couple to concentrate on - so we've decided to show you a few that models that are on final approval, and are expected to be in stock within weeks! We're holding back some fantastic locos that are being reintroduced for 2017 to the next edition, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
