The Corgi Collector Club is proud to present the latest Club exclusive Aviation Archive model - Supermarine Spitfire Mkl N3194, GR-P 92 Sqn, Roger Bushell ‘The Great Escape Collection’ - commemorating the 50th anniversary of the release of the film ‘The Great Escape’ and the 70th anniversary of the real life master escape plan.

South African born Roger Bushell has risen to fame since his death at the height of the Second World War, not due to his actions while flying Spitfires, but instead for his part in masterminding the most famous escape of POWs to occur during the war’s six years; The Great Escape. In 1940 Squadron Leader Bushell was in charge of 92 Squadron, then based at Hornchurch, when he was shot down and captured on 23rd May. Once incarcerated by the Germans, Bushell wasted no time in planning escapes, making his first attempt in May 1941. It was his escape from Stalag Luft lll on 24th March 1944 that cemented his place in history. Helping to plan the escape Bushell was one of the first out of the tunnel but was quickly recaptured just a day later and brutally murdered on the command of the Gestapo. While the ‘Great Escape’ itself succeeded in gaining only three men their freedom, the bravery shown by all the escapees was an inspiration to many.
